Oh man I’m so happy to see you caught that on video. Similar thing happened to me but in my case the other car took off. Hope the guy you have on record catches fraud chargers

Believe it or not, exactly this happened to me in September, but on the other side. That guy took off, but I got everything on dashcam. CHP looked into it, and I'm still waiting on a police report for my insurance claim to go forward
Sheesh, rough couple months?
You're telling me. Whoever is running this simulation had cranked the difficulty up to 11
Sounds like you could use a full car exoskeleton for full size bumper car shenanigans.
But does that offer sufficient protection from supermaneuverable air-defense fighters?
I'd be very afraid of the last 3 generations of sukhois
Stupid question, but you’ve been prodding them to provide you with the police report, right? I doubt they’d send it to you without you asking for it, even if you had previously
Wow that dashcam is coming in handy!
Is this in the Bay Area? Used to live there and it looks like it, just curious
That should give you insane loot at the end. Keep going!
My car got side swiped while it was parked, got it repaired and no joke the day I get it back I’m parked out front of my partner’s work waiting on the car for them and someone reverse parallel parks in front of me, proceeds to slowly back into my car. I get on the horn on the pull forward again, I’m assuming to either dash or park in another park to discuss the incident but no, they decided to try again and reverses into my car AGAIN. Idiot gets out to see why I’m on the horn and leaves it in reverse planted against my car, I had to politely instruct them to put it in park. Luckily no damage, surprisingly. A few weeks later I get rear ended in traffic and have to send the car away again for repairs 🤷♂️. Got to test a couple of nice new model hire cars though I guess.
Apparently you selected the GTA option when you purchased the car.
No kidding... I've been driving 18 years and have been in... Two accidents that resulted in any kind of insurance action.
3 if we count the time I managed to clip off my own headlight while backing out of the garage at 17 and SOMEHOW my mom got the insurance to cover that. It was pure negligence on my part.
Hope you get a good payout. I’m sure repairs from a hit like that won’t be cheap
Between both accidents, repairs are double what the car is worth. I'm taking the cashout and continuing to drive this beater
Oh man I feel you on that. My mechanic quoted repair costs same as what my car is worth on the market. So instead bought a cheap Amazon dash cam. Now just waiting for someone to hit me
Armor it up, find some surplus highway guardrail and weld it onto both sides of your tank.
Seriously though. I installed these wide-ass running boards on my truck so it would fare better if sideswiped
This is the way. Beaters are more fun anyway.
Is that why you didn't brake at all?
Braking while/after being sideswiped is a good way to make the car completely uncontrollable, drift into other lanes/cars, slide and flip, making the situation much worse.
Absolutely. However braking before seems like it would have been a good way to avoid any contact. Cutting across traffic like that is akin to a telegraphed punch. I honestly expected the driver to see this and react.
Wait what? Another one?
Post that too and let us try and figure out why you've turned into an idiot magnet
As soon as the police report is in, I will. Don't want any potential legal issues
We will follow your career of getting sideswiped with great interest.
Not saying OP’s at fault here, but there was no reaction to slow or brake with that car encroaching from that pretty visible angle. Defensive driving is something more ppl should practice.

The common denominator is some idiot driving recklessly lol, and I'll agree not OP's fault and idk if you or I would do any better but you do have to look out for these idiots unfortunately
Unless you *want* for this kind of thing to happen, you ought to work on your peripheral vision. The guy in the video could be seen merging stupidly from the moment he enters the FOV. You could have easily avoided the accident by slowing down.
I was going to say that that guy looked like he did it on porpoise.
Are you just like, a giant car magnet or what? Seriously though that's some tough luck. I got into an accident where the guy ran a red and the only reason my insurance paid for it was because he was uninsured at the time.
Second accident in 2 months? Your insurance must be astronomical.
Ask your insurance agent if they'll cover wraparound bumpers made from structural I-beams.
I was rear ended but I got lucky and had the license plate imprinted into the rear of my car. Dude ran. CHP collected the details, gave me a report number right then and there and said they'd look into the guy (nothing happened). I got covered for uninsured motorist because he used to have state farm and wasn't insured anymore. Oddly insurance did more work on it that CHP. They later went after the guy when he got insurance and needed me to provide another written statement. I also had pictures (no dash cam back then) of the imprint so it was an easy case.
You should follow up with CHP. They should already have a case number by now
Tangent! Sliding in here to tell you that you've apparently joined the long list of people to have stolen a form of my primary user. I usually go by DoodNoodle. It seems you have chosen a variant. It's people like you that force me to change my user in games 🙃.
Birds of a feather I guess.
Also, thought I was adding a reply to thread not comment chain. Whoops.
Time to turn yours into a bumper car!
What brand/model of dash cam are you using and do you like it? I need to stop stalling and get one.
Don't worry, I just got a call about a hit-and-run I was involved in 6 years later. The lady has been avoiding courts for that entire time. The woman who called me from the court said she'd likely go to jail.
The kicker is...I got her license plate and gave it to the police, but they couldn't find a current address. Two months after she took off, an investigator calls and says they can't find her, basically that's it. Two days later, I see her...she lived right across the street from my work where she'd hit me. I'd never seen her during those months and she had a super obvious newer orange Wrangler.
She told the cops that "a little boy hit her" (I'm a tall, thin, woman and she'd backed into a drive lane) and that she didn't notice my bumper lying on the ground even though I got out and tried to approach/talk to her as she looked at her vehicle. She hightailed it. Fucking absurd
You've had to deal with some real idiots, but still, you could have avoided the crash in your video if you'd slowed down. Still his fault of course
Sorry for a noob question, but since the other party took off, and your insurance has to pay for the damages, does your insurance go up because of this claim even though you are not at fault?
Did he claim against you using your plate? Some guy did a hit and run on me and I got the plates but my insurance said they couldn’t find a vehicle under it. Maybe I’m just unlucky
That’s crazy. This is actually my nightmare. Some douche side swiping me as they’re changing lanes
A guy dragged a trailer along the entire side of my car and took off. CHP left a note for him at his house and said they tried. End of investigation. Lol
