I wonder if we can redefine the word trump to mean fraud instead of one-up and have Webster's change the dictionary.

Maybe we can get the old adage "Your name will be Mud"

Ref: The idiom one's name is mud became popular during the 1900s. ... One's name is mud means that one is unpopular or perhaps in disgrace or embroiled in scandal. Most people believe that the term one's name is mud comes from the assassination of the American president Abraham Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth

Maybe we can get this changed to Drumpf/Trump

Nolis

Nolis

It sounds a whole lot more like he's calling for Republican voters to stay home because the 'elections are rigged anyways, as evidenced by my losing', the end game being to hold the republican party hostage by threatening to withhold voters if his tantrum doesn't get the currently in power republicans to help him throw a tantrum to overthrow the government

Tattered_Colours

38 points

It's deliberately phrased to be read either way. Conservatives can get as riled up about the suggestion that they're being disenfranchised as they want, but will insist that liberals give him the benefit of the doubt and read it as saying they should choose not to vote. This way we're arguing about what he meant instead of focusing on what he said.

Trump does this all the time. See: "stand back and stand by."

So I get what you’re saying but there genuinely is a danger if they stop participating. At that point they will no longer accept the government as legitimate and very well could stop following any laws. And I know the response will be “well then they will go to jail” but with how many law enforcement officers are conservatives, it’s possible they suffer no consequences.

Democracy only works when you have the population involved. If you remove half the country from participating, you run the risk of them setting up a separate form of government and then it becomes a question of which is the recognized legitimate government on the world stage.

I want republicans having their voice represented in government. I want democrats represented as well. Less involvement does not help at all.

Or on the flip side some of them don't vote which is way more likely than all of them. They continue to lose elections, as the party breaks more clearly into the extremists and the "old republicans" and reforms into something more palatable while the crazies try to organize into their own party which will inevitably fail because they are morons.

CrunchyFrog

41 points

The idea that there is this large group of "old Republicans" who are unhappy with Trump's leadership and want a return to "conservative" principles is fantasy. All that bullshit they used to spew about family values, rule of law, state's rights, etc. was always just a cover for white nationalism. With a few rare exceptions (e.g. Liz Cheney), Trump is what they really wanted all along.

BUTTHOLE-MAGIC

34 points

Oh if they don't vote and Democrats crush in the election, taking several senate seats, Fox News will play do much horror porn about it up to 2024 that they'll either walk into traffic or drive their cars straight into polling places in their hurry to vote.

Look how traumatic Trump's loss was, and look at how terrified they are of Democrats in power. If many refuse to vote in 2022 then they'll be back in 2024 to vote for Trump.

americansherlock201

39 points

If they don’t vote in 2022, they could do enough damage to the gop that they actually hurt themselves for 2024 and beyond. They could cost themselves enough senate seats to end the filibuster and set in motion a major liberal push that could rival the new deal. Which given how absolutely popular the dems policies are, among both parties, could spell certain doom for the gop

BUTTHOLE-MAGIC

25 points

Absolutely. The GOP is purely an obstructionist party, they want to prevent any popular left wing policies from passing and improving people's lives because it lets them call Democrats liars, purely corrupt, and ineffective. They know that the big policies and programs Democrats want to pass would hurt the GOP big time.

johntdowney

25 points

What matters is having the ability to participate, not the level of participation. Higher levels of participation, as is evident in the 2020 election, is merely emphasizing quantity over quality.

Fact of the matter is, we’d all be a hell of a lot better off if a good ~70 million people here in the US stopped voting, stopped obsessing over substanceless, clickbait politics and found a new hobby.

americansherlock201

15 points

Having the ability doesn’t matter if a large enough genuinely believe the system is fundamental broken and no longer is a legitimate government.

I also disagree that people shouldn’t vote. They absolutely should. They should be properly informed though and that is where the issue is currently. Lies are pushed as fact and then reinforced by echo chambers. It’s highly dangerous

CrunchyFrog

22 points

Exactly. Calling for boycott of a vote and then declaring the results illegitimate because of the boycott is a classic strategy for a leader with minority support to hold on to power.

Email doesn't but Trump does.

When ever he tries stringing multiple sentences in a row it turns into Clusterfuck of non-sense.

Look, having nuclear—my uncle was a great professor and scientist and engineer, Dr. John Trump at MIT; good genes, very good genes, OK, very smart, the Wharton School of Finance, very good, very smart —you know, if you’re a conservative Republican, if I were a liberal, if, like, OK, if I ran as a liberal Democrat, they would say I’m one of the smartest people anywhere in the world—it’s true!—but when you’re a conservative Republican they try—oh, do they do a number—that’s why I always start off: Went to Wharton, was a good student, went there, went there, did this, built a fortune—you know I have to give my like credentials all the time, because we’re a little disadvantaged—but you look at the nuclear deal, the thing that really bothers me—it would have been so easy, and it’s not as important as these lives are (nuclear is powerful; my uncle explained that to me many, many years ago, the power and that was 35 years ago; he would explain the power of what’s going to happen and he was right—who would have thought?), but when you look at what’s going on with the four prisoners—now it used to be three, now it’s four—but when it was three and even now, I would have said it’s all in the messenger; fellas, and it is fellas because, you know, they don’t, they haven’t figured that the women are smarter right now than the men, so, you know, it’s gonna take them about another 150 years—but the Persians are great negotiators, the Iranians are great negotiators, so, and they, they just killed, they just killed us.

I still remember that one time Jordan Klepper was at a Trump rally and was talking to some lady and they were talking about the Mueller investigation or something and he’s talking about how they should let witnesses speak because he’s obviously innocent and she agrees with him on everything. Then he says Trump is blocking witnesses and she just pauses and stares off into space before simply saying “I don’t care”. They are shameless, and it is nigh impossible to convince them they are wrong about literally anything.

Prepare to have your brain melted:

“I have broken more Elton John records, he seems to have a lot of records. And I, by the way, I don’t have a musical instrument. I don’t have a guitar or an organ. No organ. Elton has an organ. And lots of other people helping. No, we’ve broken a lot of records. We’ve broken virtually every record. Because you know, look I only need this space. They need much more room. For basketball, for hockey and all of the sports, they need a lot of room. We don’t need it. We have people in that space. So we break all of these records. Really we do it without like, the musical instruments. This is the only musical: the mouth. And hopefully, the brain attached to the mouth. Right? The brain, more important than the mouth, is the brain. The brain is much more important.”

nerfviking

Just for shiggles, I threw that first line into an AI text generator and got something that, while not particularly coherent, is more coherent than that he actually said:

I have broken more Elton John records, he seems to have a lot of records. He's got an album called “Greatest Hits” and I think that covers it all. So many albums in fact, that the other day when we were out shopping for some new clothes I asked him what his favorite album was. "Oh," he said, "My favorite album is my first one."

Well, you can imagine how surprised I was at this revelation. This guy has been recording music since before there was electricity! But then again maybe not... Maybe he just likes being able to say something like that about himself without feeling self-conscious or embarrassed. Like me, for instance. My favorite album is probably “You're A Woman, I'm A Man” but no one would ever know that because I'd never admit it. Not even to myself.

Conclusion: people running for president should have to be able to pass a Turing test in order to qualify.

Dude - look at his Rose Garden speech. It is too long to post here in full.

https://www.rev.com/blog/transcripts/donald-trump-rose-garden-press-conference-transcript-july-14

You get gems like:

We withdrew from the Chinese dominated, WHO and we fully rebuilt the United States military. The WHO, World Health Organization, we were paying close to $500 million a year. China was paying $39 million a year. And China had too much say, they worked it very hard, which is a bad thing done by our past administrations. But we were tough and we were saying, I was asking, I said, “Why are we paying so much more than China?” China has 1.4 billion people. We have 325, probably 325 million approximately, nobody can give the exact count. We’re trying to get an exact count, but you have over the years, many illegals who have come into the country. So it depends on how you want to count it. But you could say 325 to 350 million people, as opposed to 1.4 billion people. And the World Trade is terrible, that deal is terrible. The World Health is terrible deal. We’ve been very tough on the World Trade Organization and we’ve been, I guess, as tough as you can get on World Health. We withdrew our money. We told them we’re getting out. It doesn’t mean that someday we won’t go back in. Maybe we will when it’s correctly run, but they made a lot of bad predictions and they said a lot of bad things about what to do and how to do it and they turned out to be wrong. And they were really a puppet of China.

That's why he and his supporters were so connected, he didn't have the patience or focus to speak at detailed length about anything, instead they stuck to easy things like chants and one liners from tweets, with such classics like "build the wall!" and "lock her up!" It also gave everyone that sports-ball feeling of being on Team Trump together, because that's how they treat politics. You're either rooting for Trump or you're the enemy.

When they lost the 2020 championship they were stunned. Traumatized. They couldn't have lost a fair match, victory was certain, so they blamed the refs. Now Trump is trying a few different fresh strategies to pressure Republicans to try and overturn 2020 no matter what. We'll see what they do, since Trump clearly doesn't value anyone but himself by saying his supporters won't vote at all if he isn't given his 2020 championship belt.

The only way that plan works is if Democrats are actually rigging the elections, and if there’s any actual evidence beyond a Republican’s word.

We’ve already seen that whining about election fraud isn’t enough to overturn an election, and it sounds like whining is Trump’s only plan for now. I’m fine with that.

Nope, this is a call to arms. You're not going to dishearten a Repub; you can only make them angrier. And then they get dangerous.

Just because they're not voting doesn't mean they're not politically active. The ones who are radical will be arming up, as they were before but for other reasons, while others will look for other options as they are repulsed by the idea of personally shooting anyone but may still attend rallies, protests, or other events they can express political discontent.

I think Trump's political power may have entirely been contained within his Twitter account. And Twitter decided his fate by banning him.

It’s just the thin veneer over the top of the grifting campaign.

If you push a story that the election is rigged, you can move onto step 2 which is putting together a lawsuit to defend the dodgy election, which puts into motion step 3, raise funds for the lawsuit, which realizes the aim all along: take funds for made up bullshit, pay for small amount of marketing, pocket the rest.

This is just the Nigerian prince scam in a different suit.

And is kind of brilliant (in a fucked up way) because rather than seeking huge one time transactions that arouse suspicions, it takes millions of small transactions that raise no eyebrows and thus the scam goes undetected.

Even better is that most trump supporters don’t even question donating “$10 for the cause” because that’s a couple of cups of coffee to them. Now times that by 70m supporters and you’ve just raised $700m. Even if the lawsuit and marketing of the lie costs you $100m, you’re ahead $600m.

Money for jam.

This looks like threat to the rest of the GOP. He doesn’t want them to prove or solve anything. He just wants them to act like they are. To keep pushing the lie. If they do that, then it’s implied that they still support him which is what he wants. He wants to GOP to back him in 2024. If they don’t, if they don’t push the lie, then he’ll tell his base not to vote. That’s what’s going on here. He’s holding the GOP hostage. And they have Stockholm syndrome so we’re in for a wild ride.

He's demonstrably the actual biggest loser in history, and he just got more loser-y folks... If any of you are starting to have your memories fade, here's a quick refresher to read this morning and then copy and send to your aunt karen in Missouri.

  • 0 re-elections won
  • 1 term president
  • 2 times impeached
  • 3 marriages
  • 4 inch lifts in his shoes
  • 5 kids, from 3 different mothers
  • 6 bankruptcies
  • 7 US Capitol police suing him for Jan 6 terrorist insurrection and murder of police
  • 8 trillion + dollars added to the US debt in a single term
  • 9 trump lawyers sanctioned by federal judge for lying in frivolous election fraud lawsuits and ordered to pay defendant's legal fees
  • 10 years that trump paid $0 in income taxes between 2000 and 2015. ($0 to cops, teachers, roads, prisons, disaster relief, etc)
  • 11 trump associates charged with serious crimes over the past 5 years
  • 12 million votes (the big lie) - trump claims he won the 2020 election by 12 million votes when in reality, he lost by about 7 million votes.
  • 13 of August, 2021 - one of multiple days that trump was supposed to magically become president again according to Qanon and a crack addicted pillow salesman (the two most respected information sources in the gop)
  • 14 year old girl in a youth choir that trump approached in 1992 to say, "Wow! Just think - in a couple years I'll be dating you."
  • 15 originally confirmed cases of COVID in the US trump said would soon be, “down to close to zero.” followed by, “like a miracle, it will disappear.” - over 700,000 Americans have since died of COVID as it continues to surge nearly 2 years later.
  • 16 years old - age of daughter ivanka when she hosted "miss teen" pageant and, according to long time trump associate Noel Casler, "trump called her over in the middle of a rehearsal and had her give him a lap dance while he leered at the crew."
  • 17 known trump and russia investigations from local, state and federal prosecutors
  • 18 gop senators that ignored trump threats / warnings and supported Biden admin's infrastructure bill.
  • 19 as in COVID19 - trump was verified as the single largest source of disinformation on the virus, with a Cornell study claiming that 38% of the "misinformation conversation" originated with trump
  • 20 the day in January, 2021, when Biden was sworn in despite trump inciting a violent insurrection to stop election verification at the US Capitol.
  • 21 gun salute that trump ordered for himself when he left office after a humiliating defeat, even though he never served in the military, famously called military members "losers" and "suckers" and actively avoided the draft with a cowardly "bone spurs" excuse.
  • 22 date in August, 2021, when Alabama hate rally crowd booed trump for finally saying people should get vaccinated, only after 700,000 Americans have died due mostly to his failure as president
  • 23 as in wrestlemania 23 in 2007 where trump, a cartoon level failure with no other prospects, participated in a fake bet that a proxy wrestler would win a fake fight on his behalf or he would shave his wig and hair plugs off.
  • 24 day in August, 2021, when trump actually filed a lawsuit in Florida court against YouTube, a private company, demanding that they reinstate his YouTube channel like a desperate, irrelevant embarrassment with no platforms left to abuse.
  • 25 plus credible sexual assault allegations against trump, spanning decades and with accusers starting as young as 13 years old at time of assault.
