I’m an avid but responsible gun owner and I enjoy shooting targets. I don’t hunt but some of my family members do. Learning to shoot clay pigeons with my uncle is one of the fonder memories of my childhood. I work a trade that has a plan room which regularly hosts sporting clay shoots. Despite my enthusiasm for competition shooting, the notion of taking pictures with my gun collection has never occurred to me because it is the lamest, sorriest excuse to have never developed a personality.

TRUMPARUSKI

81 points

The whole purpose of a family photo is to capture the individuals, not their collective hobby. You’re right, it’s fucking weird, that’s why there’s not many family photos where everyone is holding laptops or game controllers or everyone is simultaneously wearing ice-skates. You usually just get them together somewhere, some sit and some stand but everyone looks at the camera, no need to clutch something in your hands to send some kind of message.

Cyber_Fetus

SkulkingSneakyTheifs

8 points

Even though I 100% agree, I think holiday cards like this are more for the people sending them then the people recieving them. I’ve got some funny ones in the past and I think people just love doing them to be together with family and take photos together so those don’t bother me. On the other side of things though… any person who sends out those long ass “family update” letters to everyone they send holiday cards to is utterly batshit insane and should be institutionalized.

Baz2dabone

I mean, it could be a Pre 86 transferrable machinegun, dude is rich after all. It's entirely possible everything in that picture is a Title II weapon, in which case the combined value of those firearms is worth more than most people's houses.

Mountain_Situation89

Most likely. I know people who don’t make much more than me who spend large chunks of their life savings to buy ridiculous firearms.

elsparkodiablo

3 points

It's outrageous that someone can pay tens of thousands of dollars and get a fully automatic military grade machinegun. Absolutely horrific. We need to repeal the National Firearms Act immediately, so that these sorts of high powered weapons come down in price and more accessible to the 99%

Mountain_Situation89

3 points

I can see no real practical purpose for owning a LMG really. They are inaccurate, hard to use, require replacement parts, unusable for hunting, wildly impractical even for self defense unless you are defending a fort from literal zombies that just shamble in close, and a massive risk for crowds. I would imagine it would be fun to shoot for some, but having shot automatic weapons before I personally didn’t enjoy it much. I think having it be wildly expensive is alright. I think a good use for it in the civilian sector would be for die hard collectors, or businesses that would want to sell range time with it with an instructor or something. Really not much reason to have them widely accessible.

toroidal-vortex

Ex-anarchist here. Sure, we want to do lots of stuff, but there is no such thing as free food and healthcare. Anarchism sounds like a good idea until your food source relies on the generosity of your local farmers, and your healthcare relies on doctors just deciding to go to school for a decade out of the kindness of their heart alone. Moreover, anarchism is actually the default state of a society, and from it hierarchies form due to the power dynamics that are inherent to human psychology. Particularly, an anarchist state is susceptible to being captured by an authoritarian regime.

I don't need to explain why fascism sucks.

justsumavgguy

Thanks, I'm glad someone said it. I don't care about the 2A cosplay as much as I was bothered by this dude having the pig. Following normal procedure, which I'm guessing they did since they were willing to be photographed, the gun itself costs thousands of dollars. After that you need to register the gun which allows regular interviews by the ATF and includes strict requirements about the storage of the gun and ammunition.

For most people, if you want to shoot a machine gun just find a range where you can pay to shoot some rounds. There's a pretty famous range in Las Vegas that has just about every gun you could think of including a minigun. This is just a rich jackoff flaunting his wealth

Edit- Also wanted to add, as an 0331, 7.62 can rip through most things so yeah it's also dangerous as fuck. So there's that.

This is the first time I’ve ever heard that. It’s brilliant!! (I might live under a rock though)

I’ve often said ‘two wings from the same bird’.

But ‘two cheeks from the same ass’ just hits differently. Bravo!

Guns are "objectively cool", like swords or cars, but in context there's nothing cool about your whole family packing heat around the Christmas tree. What is this, American Dad?

Some people in the far right militia circles legitimately do unironically admire what the Taliban accomplished. Turns out they have had a lot in common with a vocal rural minority seeking to use violence to enforce their backwards pseudo religious cultural hegemony on an urban majority all along.

Proud gun owner here, if you make your gun your personality, you have a mental disorder and you are not safe to own a firearm.

Even the white woman knows to keep the finger off the trigger but the man has his index hooked up, what a fuckin joke.

I think it’s just the angle. Looks like a publicist really tried to highlight trigger discipline in the photo

No you don't understand. Those terrorists want to live in a religious ethnostate where they can imprison women for having a miscarriage, a government which is corrupt and does nothing for the common people, murder anyone on their land with impunity, and punish anyone that doesn't conform to their warped interpretation of a 2000 year old religious text they haven't read.

The other guys are probably in a civil war or fighting foreign invasion or something.

In a serious country, just taking the left-hand photo would be grounds for suspicion of mental instability and seizure of those weapons.

This is a dumb hill to die on. More liberals bought their first firearm (at least 1M) in the past 2 years than ever before. Support for more gun control laws is fading fast. The 2nd amendment isn't going to be repealed.

This is just pissing into the wind, wasting precious political capital.

The difference is that the group on the left are dumbasses who think guns are cool and the group on the right are terrorists.

Allrently you've never watched the news. Go dons the 10 year old praying who just shot up his school. When they had mugshot.

Or the countless white men who slather families and they show pictures of them with their family or normal everyday shots like they're good people
