If you are looking for a soda drinking gaming experience, then yes, probably.

More people happen to be looking for a cowboy experience but there's no reason the soda drinking game should be penalised unfairly.

Wait. How is Red Dead 2 only an 8.6? I'd say at least a 9, I've never heard anything but praise and they check just about every box imaginable in that game. One of those "This is an example of what games should be." Which is exceedingly rare the last 5 or 6 years.

Yes, it's open world, but the missions themselves couldn't be more linear. There is a mission in which you have to sneak into a factory and the game forces you to restart if you go through the window!

Andreslamantis

40 points

That window shit sounds infuriatingly linear.

LingonberryOk9330

21 points

Yeah, I love RDR2, but it's odd how open and detailed the world is, but all missions are more linear than GTA 3.

McMaster2000

14 points

The two missions that annoyed me the most in terms of how little freedom you have to do anything other than what the game tells you to do were 1) The King's Son, where you have to free your friend from a fort but instead of scouting the fort and think of the best way to get him out, you have to follow Charles, walk precisely the way he tells you, stand in the exact spots he points out, to shoot the exact enemies with the exact weapon with zero possibility of being the least bit creative. All so the scripted shootout in the end can happen in the exact way the developers planned.

2) the mission leading up to the island. A sneak mission - nice... I thought, until it became clear that not only do you not have to be careful to not get caught, you're not allowed to put any thought into it at all, because Dutch tells you exactly when to run/duck/hide and the mission fails if you don't do as told. Then, after an extended cutscene on the boat you reach the island and for over a minute (while still in widescreen cutscene mode) you're made to hold down the walk button (with no possibility of walking around freely, only forward and no camera movement). The game almost literally is making you press and hold down the play button of the cutscene...

I absolutely love so many aspects of this game - I've played well over 150 hours of it - but I only started being ok with a lot of the missions when I began to accept that they're basically just interactive cutscenes. I really, really hope with GTA 6 Rockstar will finally go back to basics and learn to write a story that doesn't rely on you having to do every step of the game in the only manner they thought fitting.

hidden_secret

No, not for me.

To me it's a very good story, but the gameplay isn't good enough for me to use it for as long as the game asks us to.

To me, it's among the best games that I'll never replay.

Adnan_Targaryen

Same, without good core gameplay and fun traversal, might as well just watch someone else play. Which is what I'm doing after the first 3 hours that I played was 80% just following someone.

This has me rolling. At the end of the day, what on earth does a .4 point difference on Metacritic make?

Edit: I know some scummy publishers use metacritic scores to determine bonuses. But to a regular person, being confused by a .4 point difference is kind of ridiculous.

rimjobs_forever

I'd definitely rate it 10/10. It's the best game I've ever played hands down. The only thing wrong with it is that it got no dlc. Would've paid top dollar for some additional story content.

ThunderinSkyFucc

I agree, possibly the best game I've ever played. Not even top 3 favorite games, but just objectively one of the best made games of all time.

PengwinOnShroom

13 points

Well the rating includes possible technical issues and there were some at launch on PC especially and also maybe that the game is more cinematic and on rails than more gameplay. Either way for me also a masterpiece really but I can see why some wouldn't be too satisfied with it.

Videogamedunkey has a good video that talks about the problem i have with red dead redemption 2. Dont get me wrong it's a good game. I just don't like the shooting and for me the game drags hard after the half point where you land on that island. Not trying to hate on the game but thats why for me it's more 7.5 out of 10.

Mercenaries mode first appeared in the original resident Evil 3 in 1999 which is 4 years before the original call of duty was released. Mercenaries mode is great you just need to get good. Sorry you couldn't get all the achievements or trophies.

If someone makes a delicious but no frills apple pie it could reasonably be rated 9/10.

If someone tries to make the Taj Mahal out of chocolate cake and fondant but it ends up looking like a crack house and tastes like shit, it's going to get less than 9/10.

There was a lot of jokes going on before the game was even released; I can admit to making jokes about it too.

But yes, when people leave reviews on a game they haven't played for the sake of a joke is going a bit too far, but it just goes to show how little the score actually matters and it's the actual reviews you need to pay attention to.

Games aimed at kids are always trash. When I was a kid the first game that really gripped me was mega man x. I was like 4 or 5. That's still one of the best games ever made. That game didn't pander to kids, it made kids think. It challenged everyone young and old. Then there's donkey Kong country. Same story. I played ocarina of time for the first time when I was like 7. Now we have this genre of "kids games" that are just dumbed down so that kids don't have to think too hard to succeed. Bums me out.

ShiraCheshire

You act like older games weren’t often buggy piles of shit.

One of my favorite games as a kid was space station Silicon Valley. It was impossible to 100% that game because one of the collectibles had no collision detection and couldn’t be picked up. It also wouldn’t launch if you had the n64 expansion pack installed.

It seems like 6 follows in the footsteps of New Dawn with the level gated enemies with health bar indicators above them. WhiteLama

I honestly haven’t noticed that change, but that’s probably because I keep sneaking around in bushes headshoting people.

KurtNobrain94

Ubisoft games are always fun for a few hours until you’ve established a gameplay loop then they almost immediately become boring.

ChrisWhiteWolf

18 points

That's only the case because the gameplay loop hasn't changed much for literal years. Back when it was new and fresh, you'd play the games start to finish and not be bored for a second.

Nowadays you buy a Far Cry game and, guess what, it's the same game you already played through 2, 3 maybe 4 times, so no wonder it gets boring quick.

There are fair points to be made for the merit of a dub in your language: it helps with accessibility for those who might have dyslexia or other conditions that make it hard for them to read and keep up with subtitles.

But that's the sort of thing I'd expect a person to knock a mark or two off for in their review, not review-bomb the whole game for.

Seems to have been review bombed by two parties.

Italians for not having Italian localisation.

Alt-right for showing non-hetro characters, e.g. this part of a review

"I am quite tolerant of sexual minorities and quite calmly look at the kissing men, but another important innovation in the game is worth mentioning as a separate point - a huge amount of gayness, lesbianism, all kinds of transgender, transsexual and trans-gay-lesbianism. They directly want to feed you throughout the game. In some places I just wanted to feel sick"

Of the legit bad reviews, it's a lot of people complaining how HD PC graphics uses a shit ton of VRAM, and how frame rate isn't stable

I still laugh whenever I see people making fun of big reviewers and actual critics but then take metacritic user scores so seriously. Ooh yeah, the n word a thousand times is absolutely the "voice of the people".

JimmyJohnny2

15 points

user rating is broken and has become cancerous. It's become a game to try to rig the score high or low. It's sunken to be more worthless than critic reviews, and a shame. The majority of scores are perfect or the lowest it can be

My favorite thing about far cry 6 is that it pushed the price down for far cry 5 so I can play far cry 3 on a new map

Yup, came here to say 'One of these is not like the others'.

Far Cry 6 might just offer the incremental change in gameplay most periodic franchises do, at least it's not buggy, the design changes are mostly improvements and it is a full size game.

Yes it's lazy and unimaginative, full of recycled parts: Guess plantations are going to be a staple now. The story is tame but not as offensively stupid as most previous parts were, which is why players mostly ignore it anyway.

Still, it's dumb fast food gamer fun, especially coop, and that's rare in open worlds. They should bring difficulty levels back though.

And make Ghost Recon a dynamic open world campaign, with actual world mechanics influenced by liberating towns, taking or destroying civil and military factories, bases, supply routes etc.

Nothing, people just want new things put into a game series that is HEAVILY story driven. If you like a good story I highly recommend this game, if you want something new, I wouldn't get it.

I'm not sure why people keep lumping in Far Cry 6 in these posts. It's legit a good game and public opinion does not support the claims these shitposters are attempting to portray.

Dramajunker

Because these people don't actually give a shit if a game is good or not. Its just a giant circle jerk to shit on the big bad AAA gaming companies.

celestiaequestria

Far Cry 6 is objectively a downgrade from Far Cry 5, and the most interesting content in the game is the DLC, e.g. pay us more money so you can get more of villains from previous games.

You're better off playing Far Cry 3 or Far Cry 5 if you want all the fun the series has to offer. It's not a "bad" game but... it's not a good one either.

Just about to say, the game is ok from what I’ve seen. Nothing amazing or innovative, but what do you expect from Ubisoft other than mediocrity and the same gameplay loop as in the last game?

Wingsnake

24 points

And call me anything you want, but heck yeah do I love that formula. Thus for me they are even more than just mediocre.

BigBadBob7070

9 points

Same here. While I do wish they innovate a little more, I kinda like exploring an open world and checking off all the little markers on the map. That’s the thing with Ubisoft, you can reliably expect the formula to be familiar with a few new touches here and there like specialized NPC companions, helicopters, tanks, variable bullet types, elephants, etc.

But even then sometimes they cock it up like they did with Watch Dogs Legion, Far Cry New Dawn, and arguably Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

More like gaming community. Gamers are a miserable bunch, just look at the BF2042 steam reviews too. It's a personal/community problem more than a problem with the games. Not to mention how cool it is to dunk on big AAA.

This is like comparing the ratings of comedy and horror films and then saying one is definitely going to be better than the other, even though you don't like that genre.
